About the Ximenez-Fatio House

The Ximenez-Fatio House was built in 1798 by Andres Ximenez, a merchant who used the building as a storefront as well as his home. Though the house has served many purposes through the year, it’s most famous for being one of the most popular boarding houses in town. During its years as a boarding house, it was known as “Miss Fatio’s,” after Louisa Fatio who purchased the home in 1855. She was the last of three successful women owning and operating a boarding house during the mid-19th century.

Today, the house is known as one of the best-preserved and most authentic representations of St. Augustine in the late-18th and 19th century. Visitors to the home can tour the many rooms, hearing the stories of travelers to the area and their experiences in the Nation’s Oldest City.
