St. Augustine Festivals crank up again this year! Last year in the midst of all the spectacular 450th events was the Annual Spanish Wine Festival!
With more fun, more wine, better food and a totally new event, the 5th Annual St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival is set for September 8th (our city’s founding birthday) – 11th, 2016!
After record attendance last year, this year’s event is refined with a renewed focus on authenticity and quality. This year’s St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival features limited admission opportunities. Since every festival event has sold out in each of the first four years, organizers have gone above and beyond to put the emphasis this year on even higher quality wines, food, speakers and entertainment.
St. Augustine’s history encompasses many cultures and ethnicities, but our primary history involves Spanish exploration and colonization.
When Pedro Menéndez and the first 800 European settlers landed on our shore 450 years ago, his ships carried survival provisions. Among his most treasured stores was Spanish wine.
Spain has cultivated wine grapes for more than four thousand years. The Romans fell in love with Spanish wine and exported it throughout the Roman Empire. Spanish wine is the most popular wine in Europe and the fastest growing segment of the American wine market.
According to the official Spanish Wine Festival’s Website, “St. Augustine’s Spanish Wine Festival is an opportunity to promote our City regionally, nationally and internationally, to help local charities, and connect with our founders through a product that is as good today as it was when the early Spanish explorers came to America.” “Wine defies space and time.” “The festival and all of its events are designed to make St. Augustine the Spanish Wine Capitol of America, to make Spanish wine available at every local restaurant and market, and to facilitate historical-destination tourism.”
Stay tuned to their website for official event details and schedule! Here is a sneak peak of what’s ahead! The good news is if you are staying with us at the Agustin, these events are simply walking distance from our front door!
