All About the St. Augustine Music Festival
First founded in 2007, the St. Augustine Music Festival quickly made a name for itself as one of the premier concert series of its kind. All performances and performances are free to the public thanks in part to local donations and scholarships. It runs for six days in late June, with each concert held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. This is a fitting setting for such elegant music. The church, which was designated a United States Historic National Landmark, dates back to 1797. It’s just a five-minute walk from Agustin Inn, near the Plaza de la Constitución and Peña-Peck House.
Preview the Concerts at the Festival
The 2019 St. Augustine Music Festival will run from June 20th to 22nd and 27th to 29th. It will open with a concert that represents the “Simple Beauty.” Through these musical explorations, you’ll appreciate the beauty in clean, pure tones and uplifting harmonies.
Another exciting performance is Hope, Joy, and Love. You’ll listen to Mozart’s String Quintet No. 3 in C Major, as well as Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht. During the show, you’ll experience how despair can turn to hope, and grief can turn to joy, all thanks to the selfless act of love.
A Musical Party With Friends is perfect for visitors hoping to enjoy the wide range of instruments featured in classical music. You’ll enjoy works from Mozart, Mahler, and Beethoven from clarinets, oboes, horns, and bassoons.
Piano Extravaganza features a solo by Scott Walkins, as well as iconic pieces by Schubert, Hanson, and Liszt.
The festival will close with Around the World. Travel the globe in just an hour-and-a-half with pieces from Sir Charles Hubert Parry, Shostakovich, and Carl Nielsen. This concert will also have a tribute piece in memory of a St. Augustine Music Festival violist.
