In honor of the city’s 450th Anniversary, September of this year, St. Augustine will host a Veterans Day Grand Parade to honor the military history of the city and all those who served and continue to serve our country.
The parade and free St Augustine events kickoff to the holidays start from Francis Field on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2015, and will feature marchers in period dress reflecting the uniforms of all those who have defended the city throughout its long history.
Active duty units from all services and international representatives will also participate. The parade is being presented by the 450th Military Commemoration Committee of St. Augustine, along with The Veterans Council of St. Johns County, the Ancient City Chapter of the Military Officers Association in America, and the Florida National Guard.
The parade will begin at Francis Field and proceed east to Avenida Menendez, passing a reviewing stand on the lawn of the Castillo de San Marcos, and continuing south to Cathedral Place. It will then move north on Charlotte Street to finish up at Francis Field. This St Augustine Free Event will occur on Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 from 10 am – 12 noon. In addition to the parade admission to St. Augustine’s most popular attraction – The Castillo de San Marcos will be FREE as well in honor of the national holiday.
The Castillo de San Marcos – will also feature special activities offered by park staff and volunteers to showcase the citizen soldiers of St. Augustine from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Castillo de San Marcos and the majority of St. Augustine’s attractions are conveniently within walking distance of the inn.
