The 6th Annual Fiesta de Avilés will be held in September this year to coincide with the city-wide events of St. Augustine 450th Birthday Celebration over Labor Day weekend. The Fiesta takes place from Friday through Sunday, September 4 – 6, 2015, on Avilés Street, the oldest street in the U.S.A. and the heart of St. Augustine’s historic shopping and art district.
With three days of live music, art exhibits, dancing, sangria tasting, costumes, and a special “running of the bulls” along Avilés Street, the Fiesta is a celebration of St. Augustine’s multicultural heritage.

The Fiesta de Avilés begins with 450 Minutes of Art Walk from 1:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, with local band The House Cats performing from 3 to 6 p.m. This is a special First Friday Art Walk that offers longer hours (450 minutes, to be exact) to give everyone a chance to browse the downtown art galleries and enjoy the hospitality of St. Augustine’s thriving art community.
Saturday events will include live music on the Avilés Street Stage from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The stage is one of five that will be set up in different locations throughout the historic district for the St Augustine 450th Music and Street Festival.
The St. Augustine Dance Company’s Flamenco Dancers will perform from 1 to 3 p.m., and then the traditional Running of the Bulls begins, with a kids race at 3 and the adult race at 3:30 p.m. This event is a twist on the Spanish custom — in St. Augustine, the people are chased by special guests in “bull” costumes in a sprint down Avilés Street. Everyone is invited to participate, and gift certificates are offered by the local merchants for those who do.
There will be a “Name the Baby Bull” contest this year, with an actual live Andalusian bull on view in the Ximenez-Fatio House courtyard from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contest entries will be accepted during that time, and at 4 p.m. there will be a drawing of the winning name and a cash prize awarded to the winner.
Sangria Sunday is the main event on Sunday. Avilés Street merchants (restaurants and galleries alike) compete for the best sangria on the block. Tasting and voting is all done by the general public and there will be alcoholic and non-alcoholic samples so that the entire family may enjoy this festive event.
There will be live music performances on stage from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission for the majority of St Augustine 450th Events are FREE of charge to the public; including the Aviles Street Fest!!!
