Here’s Some Easy Inspiration for Day Trips From Downtown St. Augustine

Walk on the Wild Side at the St. Augustine Wild Reserve

First thing’s first: the St. Augustine Wild Reserve is not a zoo. Rather, it’s a rescue for exotic animals, many of which were adopted as pets. You’ll find a wide range of wild carnivores, including lions, tigers, and bears (Oh my!). Tours are available by reservation only every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. You’ll spend about two hours learning about the species housed here, as well as the backstory of each animal. One of the biggest highlights of the trip is watching the tiger bubble baths. There’s nothing like watching these massive cats get a soothing treatment to clear their fur and sooth their skin.

Enjoy a Day at Anastasia State Park

If you’re feeling outdoorsy, head to Anastasia State Park. Visitors love to rent kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards and explore the waters. Can you imagine anything more relaxing than paddling through the waves on the beach or through the marsh? If you’d prefer to stick to the land, you can rent a bicycle and explore their trails. We also suggest everyone stop by the Coquina Quarry. This spot is on the National Register of Historic Places!

Relax on the Beach

There are two beaches within a short driving distance from Agustin Inn. The first is St. Augustine Beach, which is the more popular option for visitors. It tends to be busier, but you’ll have a better variety of restaurants nearby. Plus, if you purchase a ticket with Old Town Trolley, you’ll have use of their beach shuttle. That means you won’t have to worry about finding parking.

If you’d prefer something quieter, head to Vilano Beach. It’s the preferred choice among locals thanks to its stronger surf. While it doesn’t have the amenities of St. Augustine Beach, it’s fantastic for couples looking for a peaceful afternoon away from crowds.

Unleash the Beast at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park

Visit an attraction that’s uniquely Floridian! The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is the only facility of its kind in the world with all 24 currently recognized species of crocodilian. There are over a dozen exhibits in the park, showcasing everything from lemurs to native bird species and beyond. Enjoy the best view of the park when you go on their zip line course, Crocodile Crossing. You’ll glide above the treetops and see everything there is at the park in one exciting ride!
